Gordy-Ma-Teaghlach

WHY GORDY-MA-TEAGHLACH ?

Well, as it turns out, trying to capture our family's ethnic history is a bit like preparing a hearty Louisiana gumbo. We have a dollop of French, a pinch of Irish, and a smidgen of Scottish. So what better way to encapsulate our savory familial essence than by pulling the three languages together into a harmonious mélange:

Ma (French for "my") and Teaghlach (sounds like "CHAI-lock"; Irish & Scottish Gaelic for "family"). And there you have it!   “Gordy, my family."

Now take a deep breath, shoulders back, chest out, chin up, and with a sense of pride, enjoy these pictures that were first curated by our - Kitty’s, Bonnie’s, Laura’s, and John’s - grandmother, Laura Eliza Pegues Gordy (affectionately known as "Lollie" and "Mama"); and our Dad, John Collins Gordy, Jr. (who went by the names, "Jack," "The Colonel," "The Marine," and a whole host of other aliases).

Here's the plan: Seth is creating digital albums during his off-time. The process is rather involved (camera and background set-up, lighting, editing, etc.), so one album will be uploaded to the site at a time. Since there are about 14 albums in all, we'll keep the website up for at least 2 years to allow everyone ample time to peruse the photos and get digital downloads.

But wait. There's more! If you see a picture that reminds you of a story related to it, or if you know something about the picture’s context, please write down the details and send them to me. I'll add them to the website so everyone can learn even more about our family, which would be entertaining at the least.

Let the legacy live on!
